Description
High Flow Nasal Cannula is a heated and humidified system that allows prescribed fraction of inspired oxygen (FIO2) levels to be delivered at very high flow rates.
Humidified high flow nasal cannula therapy is a form of non-invasive respiratory support which has been compared to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).
Application
HFNC has been used as a prophylactic tool or as a treatment device mostly in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure such as pre-oxygenation before intubation, immunocompromised patients and acute heart failure.
